Lattice Cherry Pie Decorated Cookie (Tutorial)

Let's continue with the cherry theme by making a lattice cherry pie.
Yum!

The lattice portion of the pie is formed with cookie dough in a similar fashion as a real pie crust.
Sugar cookie dough can be a bit finicky to work with, so it may take more than one try to
roll it out (don't roll it too thin), cut long strips and weave those strips together as shown below.
Make the total weaved dough area bigger than the round cutter you are using for your "pie".

Cut the weaved dough with the round cutter and using a pancake turner,
carefully transfer it to the cookie sheet for baking.

You can decorate the baked weaved dough all by itself to represent a cherry pie,
or you can create a crust and base for the cherry pie.
I did both so you could see the difference.

Below is a base cookie on the right.
To make the crust, cut the same shape again, but use a smaller round cutter to cut out the center
(see bottom right cookie).
Carefully lay the "crust" on top of the base cookie before baking (top left cookie).

Once baked, it's time to add the "cherry pie filling". :)

For the base pie cookie with crust, fill the center with red icing.
(see photo below)

Place the weaved crust over the top of the base cookie,
and then add icing in between all the weaves.

If you are only going to decorate the weaved dough (and not have a base cookie underneath),
place it on parchment paper before adding red icing in between all the weaves.
This will catch all the icing the falls underneath the cookie,
and allow for easy removal of the dried cookies from their surface.

Dry the cookies overnight.

Brush dry caramel luster dust over the crust to given it a "golden brown" look.

Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie Cookies (Tutorial)

It's a little embarassing to see how many different kinds of pie cookies I've made over the years.
I think it is definitely a sign to all of you how much I love pie. :)

Pumpkin pie is a Thanksgiving icon.
And it is also super yummy.

You can make pie for all the pie lovers and pie cookies for all the cookie lovers. ;)

There's nothing new about the idea of making a pie slice out of a triangle-shaped cookie.
But I tried to put a different spin on it by using sugar cookie dough to form the "pie crust" too.

Once the triangle cookies are cut, add left over cookie dough to the wide edge of the cookies
to form a "hand made crust" just like grandma makes. :)
(see photo below)

After the cookies are baked, outline and flood the entire cookie (except the crust) with orange glaze.

 Dry cookies overnight.

Brush some dry caramel and chocolate dusts onto the crust to give it a realistic baked look.

If desired, add a dollop of "whipped cream" (white edible clay) with a #18 star tip.
(Be sure to knead in a tiny amount of water to the clay to make it pipe-able.)

Thanksgiving Burlap Text Cookies (Tutorial)

Since handwriting on cookies is not a favorite task of mine,
I always try to find ways to use text on cookies without having to actually pipe letters.

For these cookies, I found Thanksgiving-related shapes that were big enough to contain the
large block letter cutters within them.

Cut out each shape and after it is on the cookie sheet, cut out the letter in the middle of the cookie.
(see below)

Once the cookies are baked, outline and flood the letters with tan glaze.
Allow them to dry for at least four hours.

After the dry time, press the burlap silicone texture mat onto the letters.

Decorate the shaped cookies as desired.

Dry the cookies overnight.

Brush on dry caramel dust to the burlap letters to accentuate the texture.

There is something about PIE that is unique and superior to other desserts.
And there are so many different kinds.
It's super fun to try to emulate all the different crusts, fillings, and pans into cookies.

Even though pie is served all year long.....
it is definitely a favorite during this season of Thanksgiving.

I hope this set warms your heart......
and lets you know how thankful my heart is as we celebrate together.

Thanksgiving Pie Slice Cookies (Tutorial)

These pie slices are fairly simple.....but so fun and seasonal. :)

Cut out pie wedges and add some random "crust ribbons" on the edge to bake on top.
(see photo below)

I love a lattice crust on a pie......so I decided to make a sugar cookie lattice crust.
Just like pie crust, cut stripes of dough and weave them together.
Cut the lattice to fit the top of the pie slice cookie.

Depending on what kind of pie you are making will determine glaze color.
I chose a cherry lattice pie slice and a pumpkin pie slice.

Outline and flood the entire pie slice cookie excluding the ribbon crust.

After the "cherry pie" glaze dries for about 5 minutes,
place the lattice crust on top.
(If it's done too soon, it may cause the glaze to fall over the sides.)

Add a "whipped cream" dollop on top of the pumpkin pie, if desired.
(see photo below)

Using chocolate brown, warm brown, and bright white color gels,
brush some "golden brown character" onto the pie crusts.
