Don’t worry….be happy. Here’s another another set of cookies with a message. :)

Confession: I hate camping! I went on exactly TWO camping trips when my kids were little (and this was probably the biggest mistake, to take babies and toddlers!)…..and hated every minute of it. I’m an inside girl who likes cleanliness and order.

So it’s a stretch for me to be happy when I’m camping. Which is exactly the point……sometimes we must do what we REALLY don’t want to do (i.e. battle cancer)…..and rather than worry, we can be happy. Each day is a gift, no matter if it is in a soggy tent with thunderstorms, or it is safe and warm (and CLEAN) in our own house.

I have certainly not mastered this message……thus the cookie collection to remind myself often.

Finn's Lumberjack First Birthday Decorated Cookie Collection

It's hard to believe, but my first grandchild has turned one year old already! He was born November 2016 and suddenly one year rapidly went past us, and he turned ONE! Wow.

My Finn (Finnegan Asher) is all boy. And he's super precious. (Spoken by a new grammy....) He was born premature (34 weeks) at 4.1 lbs and things were a bit scary on his birthday. My daughter was in critical condition and they had to deliver Finn in an emergency. But praise God, he has grown and developed well this last year and is all over the place now. You'd never know by looking at him that he was so small when he was born.

I've enjoyed decorating cookies for many many years now......but nothing tops making cookies for my grandbabies. What a joy it is to dive in there and create memorable cookies for their very special days. I count it such a privilege for the opportunity.

Happy Birthday Finn! 🎉🎂🎈  We love you so much. ❤️

Winter 2018 Decorated Cookie Collection

Oh how I love winter!
I know that is not a popular opinion, and some may shutter to hear it, but it's the truth.
And every year, I love to make a set of cookies just to celebrate the season.
These cookies are a small snapshot into what makes me so happy about winter.
And of course, snowmen are always a big part of the mix. 💙⛄️💙

Lantern Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

Lanterns.....they are all the rage right now. It's funny how things come and go in popularity. I remember when my son and daughter-in-law got married FIVE years ago. The bridesmaid "bouquets" were lanterns. I loved the idea of something completely different than just flowers. 

So I probably shouldn't go through my house and count how many lanterns I have right now. haha There are several......most have a battery operated candles in them. I love having little "candle lights" all over the house for fall and winter. It makes everything so much more homey and cozy. :)

Here's a lantern cookie tutorial made from this cute cutter from BobbisCookiesCutters.
I've also recently purchased this lantern cutter.....so be on the look out for an alternative lantern design. Yeah!

Refer to the video and photos for this decorating tutorial.

Outline and flood the border and inset of the lantern in your choice of glaze color. Refer to a simpler drawing/clipart of a lantern to help create a more realistic outline/inset.

Allow the flood to dry for at least 30 minutes. Press a small round cutter into the base of the lantern to make the control knob seen on most lanterns. Use that impression to outline and flood a circle on top of it. Also, add detail lines from top to bottom on the lantern. (see video for details)

Outline and flood the "bulb" of the lantern with white glaze. (see photo and video)

Allow the cookie to dry overnight. 
Using a cotton swab, spread dry yellow luster dust within the "bulb" of the lantern to give it a lighted effect. (Dust found HERE)

Brush dry caramel dust lightly over the entire lantern to give it an aged-look. (Dust found HERE)
